John D. Dawson, 84, of Dillonvale, OH, passed away Sunday Feb. 17, 2013 in UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.John was born Aug. 14, 1928 in New Alexandria, OH, son of the late Dwight and Catherine Ross Dawson. John retired from AEP where he worked as an Engineer for 25 years. He also enjoyed operating his family farm for many years. He was a member of the Pine Valley Sportsman's Club and an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife Mary Carol (Carpenter) Dawson, who passed in 2004; his son-inlaw Dean Winland; two sisters and one brother. Surviving are his children Pamela Winland of Moundsville, WV, Douglas (Cynthia) Dawson of Winfield, WV and Rick Dawson of the family home; four grandchildren, Tammy Jeffries, Courtney Allen, Grant Dawson and Lindsay Cooper; 4 great-grandchildren and his brother Scott (Peg) Dawson of New Alexandria, OH.Visitation will be held on Wednesday Feb. 20, 2013 from 5-8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 107 Hill St. Smithfield, OH, where Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11 am. Rev. Wilford Simeral will provide John's Service and burial will follow in New Alexandria Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
