John W. Elson, 75, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010 in the Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.John was born on August 28, 1934 in Toronto, OH son of the late S. Wells and Mary (Alexander) Elson. John was member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Toronto, OH; a 50-year member of the Toronto Masonic Lodge #583 F&AM John was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy; he retired from the former Ohio Edison Power Plant where he worked in the Maintenance Dept. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Philip Elson and sister Cecelia Sudia.John is survived by his wife, Nancy J. (Maffett) Elson of home; his son Douglas R. (Amy) Elson of Toronto; his daughter Laura B. Banks of Kentucky; his sister Mary Lou (Keith) Johnson of Cleveland, OH. John is also survived by his grandchildren, Carlie and Olivia Elson and Hyatt Nunn.Visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH, where his funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am with Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be Masonic Services held Wednesday evening at 7:30pm and full military honors provided by the Toronto American Legion Post #86 following Thursday's service.Memorial donations may be made in John's memory to the 1St United Methodist Church P.O.
