John R. Jeffrey, 89, of Toronto, OH, recently of the Copeland Oaks Retirement Community, Sebring, OH, passed away Saturday March 3, 2012 in Crandall Medical Center. John was born on Oct. 6, 1922 on the family farm near Toronto, OH, son of the late John G. and Lena Russell Jeffrey. He was preceded in death by his sister Gail Elizabeth Jeffrey. John was a self-employed farmer for over 30 years and later was employed by Signode and the Edison Local School District. John was a faithful, lifelong member of the Hill Top Presbyterian (Island Creek) Church, where he served as an Elder. He was active in the Church Mariners, Choir and the Church softball league. John was also a member of the 1st graduating class of Jefferson Union High School in 1940.John's activities and hobbies included the Steubenville Coral Society, Stanton Community Choir, Steubenville Players, playing the harmonica and he played basketball until he was 80 years old. Surviving are his wife of 56 years Jean Riedesel Jeffrey of Copeland Oaks, Sebring, Ohio. Four daughters, Jill (Mike) Berry of Cottonwood, AZ., Dona (Joe) Cavanaugh of Richmond, OH, Beth (Tim) Alban of Massillon, OH and Ruth (Tim) Shivers of Black Mountain, NC. John was grandpa to ten grandchildren; Lauren (Todd) Barker of Stow, OH., Ben (Ashley) Wilson of Toronto, OH., Travis and Tyler Alban of Massillon, OH., William and Sadie Shivers of Black Mountain, NC., Jeffrey Berry of Cottonwood, AZ., Emily and Leah Cavanaugh of Richmond, OH., and two great-grandsons, Evan and Aidan Barker of Stow, OH.John is also survived by his sister Rosalie Coxen of Weirton, WV., and two brothers, Wayne (Jane) Jeffrey of New Smyrna Beach, FL., and Dwight (Erewanna) Jeffrey of Pt. Pleasant, WV.Visitation for John will be held on Tuesday March 6 from 4-7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Findley St. Toronto, OH. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday from 10am til time of John's Service at 11am at the Hilltop Presbyterian Church located on Church Road outside of Toronto. Rev.
