Obituary

John M. Manning, 83, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH.John was born on November 6, 1928 in Steubenville, OH, son of the late John H. and Tattie Dillworth Manning.John was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Toronto; he was a graduate of Toronto High School class of 1946; he was a member of the men's National Bowling League where he was the secretary for 40 years.John was a retired Chief from the City of Toronto Fire Dept. where he worked for 30 years; he also worked at the Toronto Ford Garage where he did autobody repair and was a security guard at Timet in Toronto. John also served his country during WWII in the US Navy.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Kortz Manning, who passed in 1999 and his brother William Manning.John is survived by his wife Clarice Chambers Manning of home; his four daughters, Kim O'Brien of Marysville, OH, Darice Fidak of Stratton, OH, Shelley (Bill) Meyer of Toronto, OH, Janine (John) Gabis of Chillicothe, OH; his son Patrick Manning of New Jersey; his sister Mary Catherine (Robert) Humphrey of Colorado; his brother James (Donna) Manning of Toronto, OH . John also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH where his funeral service will be held on Friday at 12pm Noon. Rev Kevin Rinkes will officiate his service and burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto, OH. Full military graveside honors will be presented by the Toronto American Legion Post #86.Memorial donations may be made in John's memory to the Toronto Alumni Association 102 N. 3rd St. Toronto, OH 43964.
