IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John G.
Skrabak
November 1, 1923 – April 20, 2023
John G. Skrabak, 99, of Toronto, OH, passed away on Thursday April 20, 2023, in the Trinity Hospital ER in Steubenville, OH.
John was born November 1, 1923, in Wheeling WV, son of the late Paul and Suzanna Feterik Skrabak. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret M. Yanik Skrabak, his brothers, Martin, Paul, Joe and his sister, Sally Skrabak Romz.
John is survived by his son, John (Kathy) Skrabak of Raleigh, NC, his daughter, Susan (Bill) Kulstad of Broomfield, CO, his son, Dennis (Marlene) Skrabak of Dyer, IN; grandchildren, Marlene (Greg) Hebner, Michele (Mike) Argyres, Bill (Erin) Kulstad, Sean Kulstad, Adam (Nataly) Skrabak, Stephanie (Jimmy) Sposato, Sebrina (Juan) Hernandez, John Lincoln (Jessica) Skrabak. John also leaves behind six great-granddaughters and nine great-grandsons.
John retired from the Weirton Steel Company as a Superintendent of WC and the City of Toronto as the Service Director. John proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the DD-616 Destroyer U.S. Nields during World War II. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler fan.
John was a member of St Francis Catholic Church in Toronto, a Life Member of the American Legion, and the VFW. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and Weirton Steel 25-year club.
John enjoyed bowling up to his mid 90s. John had a gift of repairing anything that was broken and loved to spend time in the basement working on his special projects. He was very proud of his home as he built it himself in 1953. He almost achieved one of his goals in life and that was to reach 100 years of age, which he just missed by 6 months, still quite an accomplishment.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 26 from 6 to 9 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto. There is a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Church prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville. Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Toronto American Legion.
The Family would like to give a special thanks to Sondra Hinerman for all the help and tender loving care she provided to Dad during his time of need. We are also thankful to Lori Wolfe and the Yanik family who made Johns life more pleasant. Additionally, a thank you to Dads handyman, helpers and transporters Bill Swick, John Haynes, and Don Lucas.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial donations to be made to St Francis Church and the Toronto American Legion. www.jefosterfh.com
