Joley L. "Jol" Conaway, 75, of Toronto, OH, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at his home.
Jol was born December 17, 1948, in Washington, PA, son of the late Roy and Sarah (Cowell) Conaway. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Allan, Roy, and Donald Conaway, sister, Shirley Baker, and an infant grandson, Joshua Spicer.
Jol was a 1966 graduate of California Community High School (Pennsylvania). He went on to play baseball at California State (PA) for a year following in his dad's footsteps.
He was a Veteran of the US Navy. After the service he joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #495. He was a member of the Toronto Masonic Lodge #583 F&AM and he served as a Deacon and Elder over the years in the Presbyterian Church.
Jol was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate fan, well not just those teams, Jol loved all things sports! He especially enjoyed coaching girls' softball and later helping with his grandson Tyler's baseball teams! He was encouraging to all and had a true love of the game!
Jol is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan (Clegg) Conaway; he was the best bonus dad to Kristin (Ken) Spicer and PapPap to Jaden and Tyler Spicer of Stow, OH; also survived by daughter, Becki Conaway and grandchildren Logan Emerson and Alana Notte; stepdaughter, Tracey McIntyre, and brother-in-law, John Clegg, who resides with them, and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel at the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH. Rev Kevin Rinkes will officiate, and Military Honors will be presented by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Toronto High School Booster Club to be designated for Girl's Softball.
