Joseph E. 'Ernie' Carroll, 81, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, October 01, 2007 at his home.Ernie was born on August 5, 1926 in Carnegie, PA, son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Gibbs) Carroll.He was a retired employee of Weirton Steel where he worked on the railroad.Ernie was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Toronto and was a Third Degree Knights of Columbus with the Toronto Council #2187.Ernie was a veteran of the United States Army-Air Force where he served in WWII in Okinawa, Japan as a radio mechanic. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma who passed away in 1999.He was also preceded in death by his brother, William R. Carroll.Ernie is survived by his two daughters, Shirley and her husband Robert Coulter of Toronto and Diana and her husband Monte Pettengill also of Toronto.He is also survived by two grandchildren, Lori Taylor and her husband Jeff of Pickerington, OH and Leah Pettengill of Toronto, and one great-grandchild, Brionna Mann of Pickerington, OH.Visitation for Ernie will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.There will be a Knight's of Columbus Rosary Service at 3:45pm Wednesday afternoon and a Vigil service at 7:30pm Wednesday evening both at the funeral home.There will be a blessing service at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10am at the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Toronto with Msgr. Kurt Kemo as celebrant.Burial will follow in UnionCemetery in Steubenville where the Toronto American Legion Post #86 will provide full military honors at the graveside.The family has asked that memorial donations in Ernie's name be made to Charity Hospice, St. Francis Roman Catholic Church or the TeramanaCancerCenter.www.jefostefh.com
