IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph M.
Sokol
March 8, 1953 – September 20, 2025
Joseph Martin Sokol, 72, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Pulmonary Artery Disease.
Joe was the devoted and loving father of Jeremy Sokol, Justin (Holly) Sokol, Ashley (Chris) Jordan, and Abbey (David) Mader. He was the cherished son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Sokol, and the beloved younger brother of Michael Sokol, Theresa Popp, and Mary Grimes, all of whom preceded him in death in 2024. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, with a special bond shared with Lizzie Popp and Tommy Grimes, as well as by his in-laws, Frank Popp and Tom Grimes.
A proud grandfather, lovingly known as "Pappy Joey", Joe's greatest joy was his nine grandchildren: Logan, Lucas, Ethan, Lanie, and Schae Sokol; Jaxon and Mack Jordan; and Charlotte and Griffin Mader. He cherished their time together, always reminding them to make good choices by repeating back his advice: "Never do drugs, never have babies before marriage, and always believe in the Holy Spirit." Joe deeply wanted his grandchildren to lean on their faith to guide their lives.
Joe graduated from Toronto High School and went on to earn an associate degree in Real Estate. He worked diligently throughout his life, putting on roofs as a side job and spending many years at the steel mill in Weirton, WV, until taking an early retirement after a back injury.
Fishing was Joe's passion, and he shared countless memories on the water with his sons and lifelong friends. Trips to Lake Erie and Coshocton were among his favorites, and many of his happiest moments were spent with a fishing pole in hand, laughing and swapping stories with those he loved most.
Joe will be remembered for his devotion to family, his quick wit, his faith, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. His legacy will live on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the many friends who were blessed to know him.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers, close friends, and the Hospice staff who supported Joe with love and dignity in his final days.
Private services will be held at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home with Fr. Thomas Vennitti. Joe will be laid to rest in the Toronto Union Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Toronto American Legion Post #86 Honor Guard.
