Kenneth C. Waggoner, Sr., known by many as “Kenny”, “Coach”, “Waggs”, “Klunk”, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, in the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, at the age of 70.

Kenny was born May 12, 1956, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Charles “Chow” and Sara (Arnold) Waggoner.

Kenny graduated from Stanton High School. Afterward, he joined Laborers’ Local #809 in Steubenville, where he worked until his retirement. Later in his career, he focused primarily on fencing projects throughout the area, including notable work at Jacob’s Field in Cleveland and PNC Park in Pittsburgh. When riding in a car with Kenny, he enjoyed pointing out the many job sites he had helped build along the way.

Coach Waggs began his high school football coaching career in East Liverpool before joining the Toronto Red Knights staff. He later stepped away from high school football so his son could follow in his footsteps, then turned his attention to youth sports with his children and grandchildren. He coached Little League and girls’ softball in the Edison Central League and the Knoxville Softball League.

Waggs was a devoted Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan, which showed in what he wore each day. On Saturdays, he could often be found at the exclusive Matyas Garage Club, cheering on the Irish with friends. When Notre Dame was not on TV, he enjoyed watching the PGA Tour and following his favorite golfer, Scottie Scheffler. Waggs was also a member of Toronto Sons of the American Legion Post #86.

In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his son, Kenny “Kink” Waggoner, Jr., who passed in 2005, and his brothers, Richard “Dickie” Waggoner and Edward “Bugger” Waggoner.

Kenny leaves behind his wife, Lynn (Gilson) Waggoner, whom he married October 26, 2014; two daughters, Amber Waggoner and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Waggoner (Josh Cross) both of Westerville, OH; his grandson whom he considered his son, Sgt. Kaleb Waggoner, USMC, of Camp Pendelton, CA; his step-children, Shailynn Wilson (Trevor Beck) and their son Cameron Beck of Kent, OH, Clayton Wilson of Hammondsville, OH, and Logan Wilson of Steubenville; his brothers, David “Coop” Waggoner (Vicki) of Empire, OH, and Robert “Butchie” Waggoner (Ban) of New Somerset, OH.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 18 from 2 pm to 6 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where services will follow at 6 pm with Darrin Scott.
