Larry W. Davidson, 78, of Toronto, OH, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Apple Blossom Senior Living in Moon Township, PA following a long journey with dementia.
Larry was born February 18, 1948, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late James B. and Margaret L. (Bloomer) Davidson.
Larry graduated from Toronto High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from West Liberty College. He devoted his entire professional career to Weirton Steel Corp., where he worked as a research scientist.
Larry was a longtime member of the former North River Ave. Church of Christ in Toronto, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. After the church closed, he attended New Somerset Christian Church.
Larry served for 28 years on the Toronto City Schools Board of Education. He also played drums in the Community Band for many years and was a life member of the Toronto High School Alumni Association. He also volunteered with the Toronto Band Parents and coached Destination Imagination teams.
Larry was a man with many interests and talents including restoring antique cars and Chris-Craft boats, building furniture for family and friends, scuba diving to shipwrecks in the Caribbean, and piloting airplanes when he was younger. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet service, curiosity, craftsmanship, and devotion to his family and community.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sue C. (Gabriel) Davidson, whom he married on August 28, 1976, just one month short of their 50th anniversary. Sue described Larry as “a man who loved to live life, but who did it in a very quiet way.”
He is also survived by his daughter, Lauren and husband Chris Betts, of Collier Twp, PA, and their two children, Carter and Peyton; a twin-brother, Gary and wife Phyllis of Toronto, and four nieces and their extended families.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28 from 4-7PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH, where his service will be held on Wednesday at 11AM. Pastor Rob Minto will officiate, and burial will follow in the Toronto Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Toronto High School Alumni Association or the New Somerset Christian Church.
