Lewis E. Kovarik, 84, of Smithfield, OH, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 in the Lancia Villa Royale Nursing Home in Steubenville, OH.

Lew was born Nov. 16, 1933 in Martins Ferry, OH, son of the late Charles and Jennie (Pollack) Kovarik.

He was retired from Lews Amoco in Smithfield where he was owner and operator. Lew was also a Veteran of the US Army in the 4th Infantry Div. Golden Leaf and he was a life member of the Mingo Sportsmans Club.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Eltringham) Kovarik who passed Sept. 28, 2004, his daughter, Barb Richards who passed Feb. 11, 2017 and an infant child.

Lew leaves behind his daughter, Jeanne (Warren Greaser) Carothers of Rayland; his two sons, Robert (Glenda) Ogden of Rayland and Lew (Carissa) Kovarik of Weirton, WV; his son-in-law, Dean Richards of Rush Run; his grandchildren, Bobby Ogden, Kayla Ogden Hanle, Kody Kovarik, Evan, Aiden and Brady Kovarik; his great-grandchildren, Kayden and Ella Hanle; his sister, Cathy (Bill) Summy of Atwater, OH; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, Jan. 11 from 4-8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH where his funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am. Kenny Kourim will officiate and burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield. Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Piney Fork American Legion.
