IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louis Finley
Smith
July 16, 1936 – October 5, 2025
Louis Finley Smith, 89, of Bloomingdale (McIntyre), OH, passed away Sunday Oct. 5, 2025, at Trinity Medical Center West and now rests in the arms of his savior.
Finley was born July 16, 1936, in Smithfield, OH, son of the late Russell and Elsie (West) Smith. His mother Elsie passed when Finley was just an infant and he was raised by his maternal aunt and uncle, Chester and Lydia West, in McIntyre.
After attending the historic one-room schoolhouse in McIntyre, Finley went on to graduate from Wayne High School.
Finley worked at the Ohio Valley Hospital as a porter, until finding employment at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel as a pusher operator in the coke plant, before retiring after over 35 years. He also worked for a while at the former O.O. Francis Florist in Bloomingdale, in the 1960's and 70's.
In addition to his parents, Finley was preceded in death by several siblings as well as his wife, Ruth (Cooper) Smith and his children, Jonathan, Faith and Todd, and sister Dorothy Uldine King.
Left to mourn him are his two daughters, Deborah and Jana Smith of Wintersville, OH; his granddaughter, Jara Dorsey-Lash and grandson-in-law Michael Lash of Bellefonte, PA, and several cousins.
Per Finley's request, there will be no public viewing. Services will be for his immediate family only, at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield. Rev. Melody Essex of Shaffer Chapel AME Church, in McIntyre, will preside and burial will take place in the McIntyre Cemetery.
