Obituary

Marion Marguerite Wilson, 89, of Toronto, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, under hospice care at Crossroads at Beaver Creek after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Marion was born on September 20, 1936, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Cyril Lawrence and Mary Marguerite (Phillips) Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Oliver "Jim" Wilson; her daughter, Brenda Lee Romey; and her brothers, Larry and Jerry Reed.

She is survived by her two daughters, Teresa (David) Karaffa of Bisbee, Arizona, and Danette (Rich) Mannion of Industry, Pennsylvania; her three grandchildren, Danielle (Kyle) Sutherin, Oliver (Antonio) Sutherin, and John Michael (Bri) Romey; and her three great-grandchildren, Colton Stasiulewicz, Lennon Romey, and Lydia Romey. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda Lee Friess; her best friend, Phil Ann; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marion graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School and married Jim Wilson on May 21, 1960. Their 56 years of marriage were filled with love and devotion. She was most proud of raising her three daughters and treasured the joy of watching her family grow to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A devoted woman of faith, Marion was a longtime member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church. She generously volunteered her time with the F.A.I.T.H. Organization and the Catholic Women's Club and actively supported numerous fundraising efforts for both St. Francis Church and the former St. Francis Central School. Serving her parish community brought her great joy.

Marion enjoyed being social, having actively participated in the Sunrise Senior Citizens group every week. This always gave her a good excuse to bake sweets, which she loved. Rarely would she not have a cake or cookies on her kitchen table for visitors to enjoy.

Marion was also a dedicated member of the Peacemakers Quilters, who met every Tuesday at St. Francis Church. The group of women became dear friends to her over the years. While quilting became a true passion, Marion had been a gifted seamstress from a young age. From sewing dresses for her daughters' high school dances to creating outfits for holiday Masses, cotton beanies for cancer patients, and dog beds donated to local shelters, Marion could create something beautiful from even a simple yard of fabric. Her legacy lives on through the many handmade pieces she lovingly crafted for her family and community.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Crossroads at Beaver Creek for the compassion and care they showed Marion over the past several years. Their kindness provided great comfort and peace of mind, knowing she was always in loving hands.

A Memorial Mass for Marion, celebrated by Fr. Thomas Vennitti, will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11 am at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto. A luncheon will follow the Mass in the church hall. Arrangements for Marion are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. www.jefosterfh.com
