Martha Louise Shimmel, 84, of Toronto, OH, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the home of her daughter. Our Lord peacefully took his daughter Martha to be in his care.Martha was born on April 12, 1927 in Toronto, OH, daughter of the late Walter F. and Anna (Majewska) Cich.Martha was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Toronto where she was a member of the Catholic Women's Club; she volunteered for the American Cancer Society and she volunteered at her Church doing various activities. Martha loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Shimmel who passed in 1986; her infant son Daniel who passed in 1962; her three infant brothers and sister; her brothers, John, Walter, Stanley, Frank, Adam, and Morris "Red"; her sisters, Anna McCarthy, Vera Murray, Sophia Straka, Mary Bilchak and Helen Bowen.Martha is survived by her daughter, Teresa A. (Jim) Grimm of Columbus, OH, daughter Bernadette M. (Robert) Finley of Weirton, WV, daughter Patty J. (Dave) Bell of Richmond, OH, and her son Michael P. Shimmel of Grove City, OH. Martha is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristen (Micah) Finley Sobota, Amy (Matt) Finley Taylor, David, Angela, Nicole, Daniel Bell, Mikala and Mason Shimmel; her great-grandson Peyton Robert Sobota who was born June 1, 2011. Martha was also survived by several nieces and nephews.Visitation for Martha will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. A Prayer Service will be held Monday morning, June 6 at 9:30am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Liturgy with Mass for Martha at 10am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery in Toronto, OH. Memorial donations may be made in Martha's memory to the St. Francis Catholic Church, 1226 N. River Ave, Toronto, OH 43964.
