Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen (Morris) (Jackson) Webber, who departed this life peacefully on July 18, 2025, at her daughter Darla's home, where she resided for over 5 years.

Born March 20, 1936, in Wellsville, OH, to the late Walter W. and Opal J. (Kelly) Morris. She was a Wellsville High School alumni and last attended her 61st reunion in 2015 with her friend since the 1st grade, Pauline (Polly).

On August 27, 1954, Mary Ellen married her high school sweetheart, Calvin E. Jackson. They were happily married for almost 33 years until his death on February 24, 1987, and they had 4 girls together.

In early 1993, while at bingo with her daughters, Mary Ellen was introduced to Richard C. Webber who was also a widower. After dating for several months, they were married April 7, 1993, and had almost 10 wonderful years together, until Dick's death on January 24, 2003.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Stella Morris, brothers Clarence Morris, Walter Morris Jr, and Kenneth Morris, her husband and father of her children Calvin Jackson, her 2nd husband Richard Webber, daughter Sheryl Walker in 2020, daughter Lisa Emery in 2014, and granddaughter Megan Thomas in 1989.

Mary Ellen is survived by daughter Marlena (Barry) Tond, daughter Darla (Tommy) Emery with whom she resided, 9 grandchildren Nathan-Erin-Justin-Melanie-Christopher-Rachel-Shelby-Robbie-Matthew, 21 great-grandchildren, her first son-in-law who was more like a son Frank Walker, and her kitty Boots.

Mary Ellen was always a hard worker, and had various jobs throughout her life, including at Homer Laughlin China, a year-round car wash, the jewelry department at Treasure Island, cleaning house for other people, a produce stand at Certified Gas, and having a personal care home.

Mary Ellen took her role as a mother seriously. She was strict but fair, a little redhead that was not to be taken lightly! She was a God-fearing woman who studied her Bible and practiced what she preached. She taught us that family came first.

Mary Ellen was a great cook, baked the best pies, homemade bread and buns. She loved listening to country music and singing while she cleaned house. She loved to garden and canned her own veggies/jellies/jams/tomato sauce. She really enjoyed playing her piano! She loved animals of all kinds, flowers, birds, sitting on the porch with her bird feeders/hummingbird feeders/birdbaths and enjoying the wildlife, clouds, and her beautiful flowerbeds. She loved to read and work on puzzles of all kinds. She enjoyed a beer on her birthday; it was a tradition.

It's hard to think of something that she wasn't good at. She was a strong and smart woman. She could crochet/knit and made many afghans and baby clothes. She liked to paint and wallpaper, could lay carpet, do plumbing, upholster furniture. The only thing she never did was drive a car! And she never left the house without her red lipstick on.

Arthritis and failing eyesight began to limit her activities, but the progression of dementia was what finally robbed her of everything that she enjoyed. When she no longer knew who we were, it was okay, because we still knew who she was, a woman who had been a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Mommy, it was our honor to care for you, as you did for us. We love you and will miss you forever.

Mary Ellen's wishes were to be cremated with no public services or visitation. Her family is planning a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
