Matthew J. Montgomery, 58, of Toronto, OH, passed away on Saturday June 30, 2018, in the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

Matt was born July 13, 1959 in Steubenville, son of the late JoAnn (Gogul) Montgomery and James E. Montgomery who survives.

Matt was a writer and a 1982 graduate of Bethany College.

He loved life and lived for his daughter Emily. His greatest joy was being a good father and a good son. He loved knowledge, was an avid reader, loved sports and was a wonderful neighbor.

In addition to his mother JoAnn, who passed away on May 12, 2012, Matt was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gilbert Corey and his favorite cousin, Wally Gogul.

Surviving is his wife, Debbie (Corey) Montgomery, whom he married on July 24, 1991; his daughter Emily Montgomery of Pittsburgh, PA; his father James Jim Montgomery of Toronto; his sister Marsha (Roger) Lewis of Toronto; his two brothers, Mark (Cindy) Montgomery of Toronto and Mike (Angela) Montgomery of Columbus, OH; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Casual Celebration of Matts Life will be held on Saturday July 7, 2018 from 12-4 pm at his fathers home, 1210 Wentworth Ave., in Toronto.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Matt Montgomery family c/o 1101 Wentworth Ave. Toronto, OH 43964.

Matts arrangements are in the care of J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
