Melissa E. Byers, 53, of Irondale, OH, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, after a 4.5-year battle with Leiomyosarcoma (LMS).

Melissa was born July 21, 1969, in E. Liverpool, OH, daughter of Curtis W. VanDyke, Sr. and the late Kandy S. (Brown) VanDyke.

She worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for Trinity Health System for many years and most recently for Weirton Medical Center. Melissa loved crafting, painting, photography, and she was a member of the M&M Paranormal Group.

In addition to her mother, Melissa was preceded in death by her uncle, John Brown.

Melissa leaves behind her husband, Richard J. Byers, whom she married Aug. 18, 2004; daughter, Lacey L. (Will Adams) Ammon of Toronto, OH; father, Curtis and stepmother, Karen VanDyke of Irondale; brother, Curtis (Cindy) VanDyke, Jr. of Bloomingdale, OH, sister, Tonya (Joe Fowler) VanDyke and brother, Josh (Jamee) VanDyke both of Irondale; two grandchildren, Madalyn and Liam Tubby Adams; several nieces, nephews, and many close friends including her Mels Army group.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH, where her funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 am. Cinda Taylor will officiate, and burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Toronto.
