Melvin L. 'Mel' Funk, 79, of Toronto, OH, passed away at his home Thursday Oct. 24, 2024.

Mel was born June 23, 1945, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Carl and Jane (Bell) Funk.

He taught school for 32 years in the Edison Local School District until his retirement. Mel was a member of the Riverview Methodist Church, the Toronto Eagles, and the Toronto American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Weaver and Kathleen Higgs.

Surviving is his aunt, Elizabeth Bell; his special friend, Larry 'San Antonio' Purkey; his special helper, Cylus Lucas-Hunter; six cousins, Mark Weaver, Mark (Lorraine) Phillips, Frank (Leah) Bell, Carol (Rick) Hannah, Joanne (Robert) Straker and Chester Bell.

Visitation will be held Thursday Oct. 31 from 1 to 4 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Services for Mel will follow at 4 PM with Rev. Frank Rogers officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Steubenville. www.jefosterfh.com
