Michael Tris Bodnar, 72, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Mike was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Michael and Shirley M. (Henry) Bodnar.
He was retired from the Weirton Steel Corp., with 36 years of service, having worked in the Truck Repair Shop.
Mike was a 1967 graduate of Toronto High School. He was a member of the Toronto American Legion Post 86, the Vietnam Veterans Support Group Chapter One in Steubenville, the Steubenville Rifle and Pistol Club and was a firearms instructor at Special Tactics and Rescue Training.
He served his country in the Vietnam War as a US Army soldier; a Sniper in Company E, 2/506 of the 101st Airborne Division. Mike was a decorated Veteran having received: Purple Heart, for wounds received as the result of hostile action, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, with 3 bronze service stars, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Sharpshooter Badge with Machine Gun Bar with Rifle Bar, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, First Class Unit Citation Badge, Air Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Watts in 2021.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Carol S. (Hutchison) Bodnar, whom he married Sept. 29, 1972; son, Michael W. Bodnar and daughter, Elizabeth A. Bodnar, both of Toronto; brother, Keith (Missy) Bodnar of Bloomingdale, OH.
A private funeral service will be held at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto with Military Honors presented by the Toronto American Legion Post 86 Honor Guard.
