Michael Stanislaus Sokol, 78, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday Aug. 6, 2024, in the Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, WV.

Mike was born April 9, 1946, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Michael P. and Elizabeth Lucille (Abramwicz) Sokol.

Mike retired from the Weirton Steel Corp., having worked from 1964 to 2001. He was a pipefitter in the Blast Furnace Dept.

He was a member of St Francis Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, and the Toronto American Legion Post #86.

Mike served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army, from 1965-1967, as an MP (Military Police).

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Damian Jan Barker.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Linda C. (Schoonmaker) Sokol, whom he married June 15, 1968; two daughters, Carol-lin Deiderich and Stephanie (Robert) Andress, both of Toronto; two sisters, Theresa (Frank) Popp and Mary (Tom) Grimes, and his brother, Joseph Sokol, all of Toronto three grandchildren, Derrek and Devon Cunningham, both of TX, and Brianna Sokol of Toronto, and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received on Friday Aug. 9, 2024, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. A private burial, with Military Honors, will be held at the Toronto Union Cemetery at a later date.

Mikes family would like to thank Dr. Hemant Patani, Dr. Cherian John, Dr. John Cherian, Dr. Preethi Murty. Dr. Ankur Puri, Dr. Daniel Jovanovich, Nurse Practitioners Charity Smith, Kristen Lancaster, Monica Valerio, and Taylor Johnson, and the CCU unit team of nurses and aides on the seventh floor at the Weirton Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion.
