Peter Kurty Jr., 81, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH. Pete was born Oct. 23, 1930 in Stratton, OH, son of the late Pete and Mary (Zelasko) Kurty Sr. Pete was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Steubenville Plant, where he worked in the cold Strip Dept. He was a member of St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church in Toronto, the A.M.A and he enjoyed flying model airplanes, flying racing pigeons, fishing, and gardening. He and his wife Angie enjoyed polka dancing. Pete was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army as a Medic.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister.Surviving is his wife of 56 years Angela E. "Angie" (Zagula) Kurty, whom he married on June 25, 1955; his brother Ted (Joanne) Kurty and his sister Rosemary (Wilford "Bill") Swearingen all of Toronto, OH. Pete is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and nephews. Visitation for Pete will be Friday from 4-7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home 701 Findley St. Toronto where a Blessing Service will be held on Saturday morning at 9:30 am followed by the Solemn Divine Liturgy at 10 am at St. Joseph Byzantine Church. Father James Atkins will be the Celebrant and burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery. Parastas Service will be on Friday evening at 6:30 pm.Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Toronto American Legion Post #86.Memorial donations may be made in Pete's memory to: St. Joseph Byzantine Church Memorial Fund.
