Obituary

Philip R. Ferguson, 84, of Wintersville formerly of Steubenville, died Sunday, November 8, 2009 in Trinity West, after a long battle with cancer.He was born July 7, 1925 in Steubenville, son of the late Paul and Edith (Vesperman) Ferguson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Newton Ferguson and one sister Edith Giblon.Philip was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Steubenville Works. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Finley Methodist Church, F and AM #691, Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, dubbed a Knight and a member of the Steubenville Commandery #11, Aladdin Shrine of Columbus, Labelle Chapter of the Eastern Star where he was a Past Worthy Patron, and the Jefferson County Sportsman's Association. Philip is survived by his wife Margaret E. (Emery) Ferguson whom he married December 27, 1946, two sons, Phillip W. (Judith) Ferguson of Wintersville and George D. Ferguson of Steubenville, one daughter Elizabeth J. Ferguson of Weirton, 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Charity Hospice of Wintersville and requests that memorial contributions be made to that organization or to a charity of the donor's choice.Per Philip's request there will be no visitation and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.Philip's arrangements are being handled by the J.E.
