Richard C. Bentley, Sr., 70, of Toronto, OH, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, surrounded by his loving family.
Rich was born December 2, 1955, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Charles M. and Frances Elizabeth (Findlay) Bentley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bentley, sister-in-law, Wanda Bentley, and brother-in-law, Paul Fontana.
He was a 1974 graduate of Steubenville High School. After graduating he went to work at Weirton Steel and spent over 25 years in the Sheet Mill as a Coil Packager until his eventual retirement.
Rich was a die-hard Big Red Football fan. He had a love for all sports and followed his children and grandchildren at Toronto High School, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins, and Notre Dame. He was a member of the Weirton Moose #688 where he and his friends, the “Old-Timers”, golfed and played cards regularly.
Rich leaves behind his wife, Marshell L. (Fontana) Bentley, whom he married March 10, 1979; son Richard C., Jr. and wife Stephanie, daughter Shauna Bentley, and second-daughter/niece, Ashley Daugherty and husband Rick, all of Toronto; four grandchildren, Chelsie, Jadon, Mason and McKenna; sister, Mary (Fred) Merino of Steubenville; three brothers, Roger (Mary Kay) Bentley of Pottery Addition, OH, Ronald Bentley of Toronto, and Ray (Lynne) Bentley of Port Ritchie, FL; brother-in-law, John Fontana of Greenville, PA; his three uncles, Dickie, Blaine and Huck, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20 from 10 am to 1 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where services will follow at 1 pm. Burial will take place in the Sugar Grove Cemetery outside of Toronto.
Memorial donations may be made to Rich’s family to help establish a scholarship in his name.
