Obituary

Richard M. Blackburn (Tubby) of Toronto, passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2005 following a valiant battle with Glioblastoma. He was born August 5, 1931 in Steubenville to the late James and Evangeline (Morgan) Blackburn.He attended Jefferson Union High School; where he was a stand-out football player. Following high school he attended the University of Oregon at Klamath Falls, Oregon returning to the area to work at Weirton Steel Corp. for 43 years. He was also the owner and operator of K-B Electric. On August 30th he would have been married to Josephine (Reale) Blackburn for fifty-three years, who survives him. Also surviving, are twin daughters; Sharon (Joel) Obertance of Toronto and Susan (Steve) Carr of Dayton. Six Grandchildren; Joel Jr., Joshua, and Jay Obertance; Angie (Ryan) Klitzech, Theresa, and Jeffrey Carr. His only older brother James "Peanuts" (Vincetta) Blackburn whom Dick looked up to of Steubenville. Several wonderful nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his half-brother Raymond Eddy. He was an avid booster of the Ohio State University Football Team having the honor of ushered at the home games for numerous years and was well noted for his lavish tail-gating celebrations. Dick supported memberships at St. Francis Catholic Church, Dyer Country Club, Steubenville Country Club and the Toronto Eagles. With a passion for life, he knew no strangers, sharing his love for automobiles and collector cars. He will be missed by his family and numerous friends. Friends and family may call on Thursday evening from 7-9 pm. and on Friday from 2-4 and 7- 9 pm. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc. 701 Findley St. Toronto; where the blessing service will be held on Saturday morning at 9:30 am., followed by the Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:00 am. at St. Francis Church on Findley St. Msgr. Kurt Kemo will be the Celebrant and Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery. Vigil Services will be on Friday evening at 7:30 pm. The family wishes that memorial gifts be made to the Palliative Hospice Section of Trinity East 380 Summit Ave. Steubenville, Ohio 43952, St. Francis Central School and the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto.
