Obituary

Richard Dale Campbell, 89, of Irondale, OH, passed away Wednesday Oct. 1, 2014 at the Laurels of Steubenville.

Richard was born Nov. 16, 1924 in Steubenville, son of the late John and Reva Moore Campbell.

He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel where he worked as a railroad engineer.

He was a member of the Hilltop Presbyterian Church and was an avid gardener and loved traveling the US with his family.

Richard served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the battleship USS Washington during the battle of Savo Island off Guadalcanal. Later he served aboard destroyer USS Drexler when it was sunk by Japanese Kamikaze aircraft off Okinawa.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Buddy Mulholland and William Campbell; sisters, Virginia Lund and Reva Walters.

Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Priscilla (Frey) Campbell; daughters, Charlotte (the late Dale) Cline and Judith (David) Bickler both of Toronto; son, John Campbell and his companion Tammy Wells of Knoxville, OH; sisters, Becky Hazencomb and Audrey Neeley of Steubenville. Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Richard will be held on Friday Oct. 3, 2014 from 4-8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home 701 Findley St. in Toronto. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH with Military Graveside Honors being presented by the Toronto American Legion Post #86.
