Richard D. Dick Carter, 86, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 in the Brightwood Nursing Home in Follansbee, WV.
Dick was born June 12, 1934 in Adena, OH, son of the late Virgil and Edith (Heaton) Carter.
He was retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. with over 40 years of service in the Refrigeration Dept. Dick was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto and was a 1952 graduate of Toronto High School.
Dicks memberships included being a charter member of Dyer Country Club, a 61-year member of the Toronto Lions Club and the Toronto Beautification Comm. He was also a Veteran of the US Army having served his country during the end of the Korean Conflict.
Dick was the secretary of the Lions Club for many years and was a Past President. Some of his awards accomplishments included: Past District Secretary, Melvin Jones Award recipient, International Presidential Award recipient given by Past Int. President, the late James Coffey, District Leadership and Dedication Award, Past Cabinet Secretary and Treasurer, Governors Award recipient. Dick also received the Community Star Award in 2004 from the Herald-Star.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister Francis and his brothers, Virgil, Al, Don and Myron.
Dick leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Barbara A. (Harasimik) Carter whom he married Aug. 1, 1959; special nieces Janice McClain, Rosemary Rebres and Adriana Rock; great niece and nephew, Gail Nickerson and Paul Rebres; great-great nieces and nephews, Alexandria and Kylie Parker, Blake Rebres, William Nickerson and Michael Janzen and the children and grandchildren of Adriana and Tim Rock.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 3 PM to 6 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from 10 AM to 11 AM at the St. Francis Church in Toronto. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will follow at 11 AM with Fr. Thomas Vennitti as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Toronto Union Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be directed to: The Toronto High School Alumni Assoc., the Toronto Lions Club and the St. Francis Catholic Church.
