Richard W. "Dick" Craven, Jr., 80, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, January 07, 2013 in the Sienna Skilled Nursing Home in Wintersville, OH.Dick was born on Oct. 7, 1932 in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Richard Sr. and Alice Pearl Brewer Craven.Dick was member of the North River Ave. Christian Church in Toronto, where he was a member of the church choir, something he enjoyed and participated in since 8th grade. Dick was a life long resident of Toronto and graduated from the Toronto High School Class of 1951; he was also a member of Toronto Masonic Lodge #583 F&AM where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. Dick retired after 36 years as a Nationwide Insurance Agent. He owned and operated Craven Insurance Agency and following his retirement he turned his love of golf into Craven Custom Clubs where and made and sold custom golf clubs.Dick was a member and officer, for more than 50 years, of the Toronto Lions Club and the Toronto Booster Club. For over 35 years, he was the "Voice of the Red Knights" announcing at football games and band competitions. He was a founding member of the Toronto Community Band; an officer and past honoree of the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan. He was active in the Toronto Alumni Association.While at Sienna Skilled Nursing Facility, he served as the president of the Resident's Council. In addition to his love of golf, Dick enjoyed boating, taking pictures and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara J. (Burkett) Craven who passed in 1988.Surviving are his wife, Peggy Davidson Craven; his son Rick (Sue) Craven of Bolivar, OH; his daughters Lee Anne (Dan) McKee of Valley Grove, WV and Amy (Jim) Piatt of Elon, NC; step-daughter Donna (Jim) Rogers of Salineville, OH; step-son Randy Davidson of Toronto, OH; his sister Dorothy (Bob) Fouts of Toronto, OH. Dick also leaves behind his five grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Dick will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10 from 3-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH where his Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11am. Rev. Robert Hanze will officiate his service and burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery. There will be Masonic Services for Dick held Thursday evening at 8pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Dicks' memory to: North River Ave. Christian Church, Toronto Lions Club or the Toronto Boosters Club.
