Robert Fred Smith, 87, of Steubenville, OH, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in the WVU Weirton Medical Center.

Bob was born on January 7, 1939, in Mingo Junction, OH, son of the late Donald and Alma Marie (O’Neill) Smith.

He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., where he worked in the BOF.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carol (Jackson) Smith, son, Mike (Jessica) Smith, and daughter, Tracie (David) Wilson, all of Steubenville; sister, Mary Louise Hearn of Carrollton, OH; five grandchildren, Alyssa Ann (Charlie) Duffy, Kara Lynn Smith, Karyssa Jeanelle (Mark) Bowers, Amy Wilson, Jennifer (Franklin) Justice; six great-grandchildren, Warren Hickle, Taylor Echenrode, Erica Benitez, Mara Benitez, Makiya Gatts, and Lily Wilt; three great-great-grandchildren, David Colson, Daxton Benitez, and Kaiden Benitez.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
