Robert Anthony Gibson, 61, passed away August 6, 2026, at Summa Hospice of Akron. Rob waged a hard-fought battle with cancer before succumbing to his illness. He was surrounded by his caring family and passed peacefully with their love and support.
Rob was a resident of Tallmadge, OH where he lived for many years. He was born on December 12, 1964, in Steubenville, OH to Alice (Tond) and Kenneth Gibson, Sr. He grew up in Toronto, OH where he attended St. Francis Parochial School and graduated from Toronto High School in 1983. He attended Jefferson Technical College and transferred to Hickok Technical Institute in Cleveland where he earned his Electronic Specialist degree. Through the years, Rob worked installing security systems, repairing slot and bowling machines, and for the past six years, repairing ATMs.
Rob was a kind and generous man. He was the King of Dad Jokes, the fun Uncle, the pesky younger brother who was also funny and sweet, the devoted son, loving dog dad to Kasper, and a friend to all.
Rob spent his free time ruling the lanes with his friends in bowling league. He loved to play pickleball with his dad and big brother, Ken. He had a passion for all sports, especially watching the Buckeyes and Steelers kick some butt (or cussing them out when they didn't). Another favorite pastime of Rob's was Music. He loved a good concert and all genres from Dean Martin to Jimmy Buffett. He liked to listen to the radio with his daughters and enjoyed whatever music they were playing.
Rob was the ultimate Girl Dad to Hannah and Sarah "Stef." Together they enjoyed numerous fun family activities. Cherished memories include; attending local fairs, festivals, parks, and live comedy shows, smashing up junk at the Rage Room, bowling, playing cards and Yahtzee, and going on vacations. His girls were truly his greatest joy, and he loved every moment shared with them.
Rob is survived by his two daughters Hannah Gibson of Kent, OH and Sarah "Stef" (Kiersten) Gibson of Massillon, OH and their mother Leah Bailey of Kent, OH; his brother Ken (Melissa) Gibson of Dayton, OH; his nephew Kenny (Aven) Gibson of Sanford, FL; his niece Jessica (John) Gibson of Dayton, OH; and many more loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Kenny; his daughter Hannah's fiancée, Brandon; and his best friend of many years, Terry.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 16, from 12 to 2 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, 701 Findley Street, Toronto, OH, where services will follow at 2 pm.
A private burial will take place in the Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, Rob asked that donations be made to the Portage County Animal Shelter and/or Summa Hospice of Akron.
