Obituary

Robert “Bob/The G” Grant, age 79, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Toronto, Bob was a hardworking, devoted family man and friend to many. He spent 47 years working for U.S. Can, where he also proudly served for many years as a union representative for IAM, negotiating contracts and pensions on its behalf.

A lifelong sports fan, he didn’t miss a Steeler game or the chance to cheer for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was one of the original coaches of the Toronto Titans football team and a faithful supporter of the Toronto Red Knights. On Friday nights, he could often be found in his familiar spot along the fence near the end zone, cheering on the team.

Bob didn’t just love watching football, he played it. Playing for the Toronto Red Knights in high school and the Steubenville Steel Bandits semi-pro team. He also spent 40 years playing first base for local teams including The White Front Whales and Iggy’s. He was at his happiest when he was playing or watching his teams and hanging with buddies, who all got a nickname and a story to go with it.

Above all, Bob was a proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories and laughter. He loved reminiscing about growing up in Toronto, family vacations, and, of course, the time he almost missed witnessing the Steelers’ legendary Immaculate Reception. He had a story for every occasion and never tired of telling them.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, his lady, Severine; his daughters Deena (Adam) Rector and Lisa (Brian) Fogle; his grandchildren, “The Peanuts”, Maddie and Katie Fogle; grand dog Peanut (“Peanutski”); his brother, Michael (Vickie) Grant and sister, Marie (Nick) Valero.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Michael and Norma Grant and his sister-in-law Susan (John) Grubbs.

Honoring Bob’s wishes, private services will be held, with burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Toronto. Arrangements for Bob are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.

The family would like to thank the staff at Carriage Inn in Steubenville for their compassion and kindness during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Toronto Titans Organization in Bob’s memory.

Bob loved to say he was “often imitated but never quite duplicated,” and he was right.

He will be forever missed.
