Obituary

Robert C. “Bob” Hughes, 79, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on July 28, 2026 following surgery complications.

Upon his passing, Robert was greeted in Heaven by his beloved wife of 38 years, Lois (Hayes) Hughes, his parents Clifford and Florence Hughes, one brother, Richard “Dick” Hughes, and one sister, Janie Hughes.

Bob was born in Toronto, OH, in 1947 and graduated from Toronto High School in 1965.

Although he always remained humble about his time in the service, Bob joined the Army after high school and served our nation in the Vietnam War. Upon returning from Vietnam, Bob married the love of his life on June 20, 1970.

Bob dedicated many years of hard work to his career at Weirton Steel Corp. Outside of work, he was an avid golfer who spent much of his free time on the green. He and his wife, Lois, were frequent visitors to Las Vegas where they both enjoyed attending shows like Cirque du Soleil. Bob was always a devoted husband and father and was Lois’ steadfast caregiver when she faced a hard-fought battle with cancer.

For many years, Bob enjoyed spending summers residing at Tappan Lake campgrounds where he was surrounded by friends and his constant companion, his beloved Shih Tzu, Max.

Bob is loved, missed, and survived by his two sons, Erik Hughes of Toronto, and Dan Hughes and his wife, Leslie Hughes, of Stone Creek, OH; grandsons, Brayden Hughes, Drew Kreinbihl, and Maddox Kissinger; brother, Jerry “Lurk” Hughes, and a loving circle of extended family members and friends.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, he will be cremated and honored with a private family celebration of life. His arrangements are in the care of J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
