Rodger David Gibbons, 84, of Adena, OH, passed away Monday Aug. 10, 2026, in the Trinity Medical Center West ER in Steubenville, OH.

Rodger was born on July 30, 1942, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Lawrence Marion and Rosa Marie (McElvy) Gibbons.

Rodger retired from N.W. Railroad, where he worked on the gang line. He was a member of Pine Valley Sportsman and Short Creek Sportsman’s Clubs. Rodger had a great love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt.

In addition to his parents, Rodger was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandy Gibbons, his sister, Thelma Wright, brother, Thomas Gibbons, and ex-wife, Betty Jean (Bartel) Gibbons.

Surviving are his three children, Vicki Gibbons of Adena, Michael Gibbons of Chillicothe, OH, and Rick (Maegan) Gibbons of Bloomingdale, OH; sister, Barbara (Butch) Hemshrodt of E. Springfield, OH; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday Aug. 14 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH, where services will be held on Saturday at 11 am led by Wally Jancura. Burial will follow in the Northern Cemetery in Smithfield.
