Obituary

Ronald E. Ferrell, 68, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, February 23, 2009 in the Trinity West Medical Center in Steubenville, OH.Ron was born August 8, 1940 in Steubenville, OH son of the late Ralph S. and Eileen E. (Black) Ferrell. Ron was retired from the United States Post Office in Toronto where he worked as an Asst. Postmaster. Ron was a Veteran of the US Navy and he was a member of the Toronto American Legion Post #86 where he worked as their Business Manager as well as the business manager for the Toronto American Legion Baseball Team, having taken the team to Athens, OH in 1999 where they won their first ever State Championship. He was known to all around the ball field in Toronto as "Mr. Food." Ron was also a member of the Toronto Booster Club, a former School Board Member for Toronto City Schools, where he graduated with the Class of 1958, and the former owner of Ferrell's Bullpen in Toronto. He was a Protestant by faith and he loved to fish the lakes of Canada. Ron was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler, Ohio State Buckeye and Toronto Red Knight Fan. Ron helped the youth sports programs in Toronto for many years having help raise funds for the various organizations, he also helped with the Salvation Army Kettle Drive and the Toys for Tots Program.In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his infant brother, Harry Lee, two sisters, Debbie Butler and Diana Woodall.Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia E. (Baldwin) Ferrell of home, whom he married on Sept. 12, 1961; daughter Kimberly (Bobby) Hernandez of Kansas City, KA; Cindy (Chris) Mallory of Steubenville, OH; son Ronnie (Patty) Ferrell of Richmond, OH; son Mark Ferrell and his companion Penny of Toronto; sister Carol Voltz of Toronto and his brother Kevin (Lisa) Ferrell of Ontario, CA. Ron is also survived by his grandchildren, DP, Stephanie, Josh, Kayla, Jessica, Brett, Bryce, Lauren, Emily, Drake and Jada; one great-grandson Gavin; several nieces and nephews.Visitation for Ron will be held on Wednesday evening from 6-8pm and again on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. Ron's Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 27 at 11:00am at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Hanze officiating. Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery with the Toronto American Legion Post #86 providing Full Military Honors.
