Roy R. Layne, 81, of Smithfield, Ohio; passed away Wednesday Oct. 31, 2007 in the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, Ohio. Roy was born Jan. 13, 1926 in Brilliant, Ohio, son of the late Roy E. and Katheryn Carle Layne. Roy was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Clerical Dept., he was also a former bus driver for Buckeye Local Schools and he operated the Smithfield Youth Center from 1964-1980. He is a member of the Smithfield Christian Church, Piney Fork American Legion and served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II . In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife Marion (Dennis) Layne in January of 2002, his son Larry Edward in 1952, and his sister Hester Fisher in 2006. Surviving are; his daughters, Cheryl Schrader and Joyce (Dale) Hatfield both of Rayland, his sister, Hilda DeFalco of Wintersville, his brother, Russell (Virginia) Layne of Shadyside, Ohio, his brother-in-law Ralph Fisher of Dillonvale, three grandchildren, Dale (Jamie) Hatfield of New Straitsville, Ohio, Angela (Joseph) Harris of Belmont, Ohio, Jason (Yasuko) Schrader of Sasebo, Japan. Five Great-Grandchildren, Courtney, James, Nicholas Harris, Marcus and Colin Schrader. Also his special friend, Bonnie Stewart of Wintersville. Friends and family may call on Sat. Nov. 3rd. from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. and also on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm., at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc. 107 Hill St. Smithfield. Services will be held on Monday at the Funeral Home at 1:00 pm.Rev. Wilford Simeral will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield. Full Military graveside honors will be provided by the Piney Fork American Legion. Memorial donations may be made to, the Smithfield Christian Church P.O.
