IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Russell Jay
Starr
March 27, 1960 – March 26, 2025
Russell Jay "Rusty" Starr, 64, of Toronto, OH, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
He was born March 27, 1960, in Steubenville, son of the late Terry L. Starr and Doris R. (Payne) Starr, who survives. In addition to his father, Terry, Rusty was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Edward G. "Eddie" and Mary Eileen (McCausland) Reynolds, along with many aunts and uncles.
Rusty leaves behind his mother, Doris, of Toronto; the love of his life and high school sweet heart, Cindy (Reynolds) Starr, whom he married May 22, 1981; his son, Adam Starr (Brandi Hedrick), and his daughter, Shelley (Blake) Judy; his brother, Tim (Beaver) Starr, his sister, Becky (Jeff) Foster, and his brother-in-law, Jimmy (Toni) Reynolds, all of Toronto, and sister-in-law, Maryann (Chip) Hoobler of Irondale, OH; his ten grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, SJ, Mitch, Silvia, Mia, Samuel, Emma, Colt and Carson, and many first cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a lot of really great friends.
Rusty started a lifetime career in the automotive industry through his father Terry. He then ran the service station in Toronto with his wife Cindy, and years later went on to a new venture, AUTOZONE, where he would work for over 26 years. The last 6 years, working in Recruiting and Training, helping the new Autozoners, were the most rewarding.
He and Cindy lived a life full of memories early on, including car shows, weekend getaways to the Marriott, and dinners at the Old Farm Inn. Once children came, their lives were dedicated to raising their family. When their two birds left the nest, they were hopeful for a grandchild and were so blessed with 7 in 5 years. They cherished every moment with their grand babies dearly.
Rusty loved his grand-babies! He enjoyed watching them in sports and other activities and seeing his granddaughters smile! He took great pride in that he and Cindy raised great children who became wonderful parents themselves.
Rusty enjoyed spending time with his family. He would frequently stop in for a visit with his mother on his way home. Once he was unable to stop, they continued their special relationship on the phone, where Doris learned more about football than most other 90-year-old mothers. He was her baby, and he loved that she was there for him and the family.
In Rusty's last years he was close to his love. Cindy was his everything, his caretaker. They shared laughs watching Rosanne and the Price is Right. They loved to watch their birds out in the yard and enjoy their sausage sandwiches together. He also enjoyed bowling with family and friends—at one point, four nights a week. In addition to bowling, he loved watching Football. He was a diehard Ohio State Buckeye and LA Rams fan. Rusty will be missed and his impact on so many others is irreplaceable.
Family and friends will be received Sunday, March 30 from 1 PM to 3 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where services will be held at 3 PM. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate, and a meal will follow in the fellowship hall of the First Methodist Church, corner of Sixth and Main St., where Rusty was a member and spent many years on the counting committee. www.jefosterfh.com
