Ruth (Finney) Pastre, 75, died peacefully on Jan. 14, 2014. She was born to Eura and Gertrude (Blake) Finney on Oct. 28, 1938. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Louis Pastre, who died in 1995, two brothers, Wayne and Bruce Finney, one sister, Shirley (Finney) Mamone, a beloved son-in-law, Michael Brown and his daughter Heather (Brown) Sensibaugh.Ruth spent most of her life being a homemaker, which was a full time job. She and Lou always had a huge garden and spent countless hours canning food to nourish her family. Ruth enjoyed crafting, painting, and making stained glass. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She loved genealogy and reminiscing about local history. Ruth so loved nature and loved watching birds. She spent countless hours in her yard, garden, and flower beds with her dogs, Jenny and Conner, by her side.Ruth actively volunteered in her church and community. She gave time to children through the Ohio Reads Program and was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were younger. She helped as a band mother and was always eager to donate her time, money, or food when it was asked of her.Ruth's family was the center of her world. There was nothing she wouldn't do for any of them. Ruth was a veteran "grandma" with a special knack for fostering and encouraging each grandchild's unique talent. She so loved the holidays and always saw them as an opportunity to have a family gathering. Ruth will be sadly missed, but always remembered for her selfless kindness towards others, even strangers.Ruth is survived by her children Lori (Jeff) Ford, Paige (Gary) Zavatsky, Matthew (Amy) Pastre, and Lisa Brown. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Autumn (Mike) Troullos, Jacob (Allyssa) Ford, Jordan Ford, Justine and Jessica Mentzer, Summer, Aishya, and JoAnna Pastre, and Matteson Zavatsky. She also has 4 great-grandsons Mikey, Lucca, and Rocco Troullos and Holden Mentzer; a fifth great-grandson is on the way. Ruth also has many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.Visitation will be held on Thursday Jan. 16, 2014 from 3-7 pm. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Homes,Inc., 107 Hill St. Smithfield, OH. On Friday visitation will be held from 10 am til time of Ruth's Service at 11 am., at the Smithfield Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dan Holt will officiate the Service and burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield.The family wishes to thank the staff at Park Health Nursing Home and Martins Ferry Senior Citizens Center.
