Sue C. Davidson, 73, of Toronto, OH, unexpectedly passed away on August 14, 2026, in Holden Beach, NC, surrounded by family.
Sue was born on December 9, 1952, in Marion, OH, to the late Robert B. and Ruth Alice (Anson) Gabriel. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry, who passed away on July 24 of this year. Together in Heaven, they will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 28.
Sue was a 1971 graduate of Toronto High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education and Library Sciences from Kent State University and later received a master’s degree from the University of Dayton. She began her career as an eighth-grade Language Arts teacher before becoming the district librarian for Toronto City Schools, where she dedicated 37 years to serving the students and families of her community.
Sue was deeply involved in her community and generously gave her time to many organizations. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the former Three Arts Club of Toronto, River’s Edge Garden Club of Toronto, and the Toronto High School Alumni Association. She held leadership positions in many of these organizations and was always willing to lend her energy, creativity, and passion to the causes she loved.
Family was at the heart of Sue’s life. She loved traveling with her family on cruises and spending summers at Lake Erie. Her favorite destination was Colonial Williamsburg, which inspired the design of the family home. She spent countless evenings cross-stitching and loved hosting her family’s Fourth of July party, fondly nicknamed the “Sue Spectacular.” She especially looked forward to reconnecting with classmates and former students at the Toronto All-School and Class Reunions, which she helped to organize.
Sue will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lauren, and son-in-law, Chris Betts of Collier Twp, PA, and their two children, Carter and Peyton; her sisters Jane Burkett and husband Tal, of Marion, OH, and Joy Siers, of Toronto; and her four nieces and their families.
Sue leaves behind a legacy of service, passion, friendship, and, above all, love for her family and community. She will be remembered for the many ways she brought people together, the traditions she created, and the joy she found in the people and places she loved.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23 from 1 to 4 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH, where services will be held Monday at 11 am. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate and burial will follow in the Toronto Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Toronto High School Alumni Association or the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
