Valjean Lou Dokes, 68, of Steubenville, OH, passed away Sat. Sept. 6, 2014 at her home. Valjean was born Jan. 10, 1946 in Martins Ferry, OH, daughter of the late Oliver and Artie Toney. She was retired from Trinity Medical Center housekeeping dept. In addition to her parents, Valjean was preceded in death by her daughter Sharonda Renee Toney and by her brother Perry Toney. Surviving is her husband, James M. Dokes of home; her son Timothy R. Toney of Columbus, OH, her daughter Denise M. Dokes of Steubenville; two granddaughters Nichelle R. Dokes and Vanessa L. Dokes both of Steubenville; one great-granddaughter Meela J. Herring-Hill of Steubenville; her brother William Toney of Bloomingdale, OH. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday Sept. 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church in McIntyre, OH. Pastor Melody Essex will officiate the Service and Rev. Mary Ann Smith will deliver the Eulogy. Arrangements are in the care of J. E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc. Smithfield, OH.
