Mrs. Verda Evans passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2008 while at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, MO. Born on June 11, 1917 in Smithfield , Ohio to Paul and Hazel (Snyder) Hunter, she was 90 years old. Mrs. Evans grew up in Smithfield , Ohio where she graduated from Smithfield High School in 1934. On June 30, 1936, she married Richard Argyll Evans. The couple lived in Martins Ferry, Ohio for many years. In 1963 Verda moved to LaMarque , Texas and lived in several other places during her 42 year career with American National Insurance Company. After her retirement, she moved back to Smithfield , Ohio later moving to Ft. Lauderdale , Florida . She enjoyed travel and has travelled extensively throughout the world. In addition to travel she enjoyed reading and needlework, sang in choirs, and volunteered for many different church activities. Verda will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends that she made throughout the world. Verda was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Hazel Hunter; her two brothers Robert Lucian Hunter and Orville Lee Hunter, and a sister Buena Ruth Thrash. Mrs. Evans is survived by her two children Sandra Kay McNickle of Haymarket , Virginia ; and Ledra Judith Witsberger and her husband Robert of Willow Springs, Missouri. She is further survived by seven grandchildren ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A funeral service for family and friends in Ohio will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 3:00 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, located in Smithfield, OH. There will be an hour of visitation at the funeral home preceding the funeral service from 2-3pm. Burial will follow Saturday's service at Northern Cemetery in Smithfield, OH.
