Veronica T. "Bunj" Smith, 83, 0f Toronto, Ohio passed away Tuesday April 19, 2011 in the Carriage Inn of Steubenville. Bunj was born Aug. 16, 1927 in Toronto, daughter of the late Michael and Anna Plahita Banik. Bunj was the manager for the former Hub Dept. Store Beauty Salon in Steubenville. She is a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the C.W.C. of the church and the Toronto Sunrise Senior Citizens Club. In addition to her parents Bunj was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Straka, Ann Karovic, Helen Banik, Elizabeth McLaughlin, Irene Dillehay and her brother Joe Banik.Surviving are her husband Jay S. Smith, whom she married on June 18, 1949, her son Jay Walter (Rene) Smith of Toronto, her daughter Joni (Tim) Chilson of N.C., three grandchildren Ashley (Christopher) Mantica of Cincinnati and Chase and Olivia Chilson of N.C. One sister survives, Pauline Lewark of Weirton. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm., at the J. E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Findley St. Toronto, Ohio. There will be no visitation on Easter Sunday. A prayer service will take place on Monday at the Funeral Home at 12:30 pm., followed by Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 1:00 pm. at St. Francis Church. Father Thomas Vennitti will be the Celebrant and Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery. Vigil Service will be Sat. afternoon at 3:30 pm.
