Obituary

Walter King Baker, 80, of Toronto, OH, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Walter was born August 28, 1943, in Island Creek Twp, Jefferson County, OH, son of the late Bernard Samuel and Celestia Clara (Monigold) Baker.

He retired from Weirton Steel Corporation, having worked in the Tin Mill, and he was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club.

Walter loved to keep busy, cutting grass, splitting wood and porch sitting. He bricked his whole house over a three-year period, while working full time.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Pooch Merritt and Katherine Thompson, and his brother, Bernard Bud Baker.

Surviving is his wife, Kerry A. (Bryan) Baker, whom he married Nov. 14, 1963; son, Bryan Baker, and companion Theresa Darrah, of Toronto; three daughters, Kimberly (Greg) Randolph of Texas, Wendy Gail (Ed) Lawlor of Steubenville, OH, and Dusty Baker of Toronto; sister, Mary Merritt of Toronto; seven grandchildren, Clayton (Deszahrae) Baker, Kera (Logan) Schneider, Katie Baker, Christopher and Kayleigh Gotschall, Ethan and Ryan Lawlor; four great-grandchildren, Paislee, Colton, Cami and Laken.

Walter requested no viewing or service. A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held Saturday June 8, 2024, at his home at 5:00 PM.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, or Southern Care Hospice.
