Walter J. Podolski, 87, of Smithfield, OH, passed away Monday morning, December 17, 2007, at his home. Walter was born March 2, 1920 in Harpersville, OH son of the late Andrew and Agnes (Kocot) Podolski. He was a member of St. Adalbert's Roman Catholic Church in Dillionvale, USWA Local # 1190 where he was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel working in the Blast Furnance. Walter was also a veteran of the US Army serving his country in WWII. Walter was a faithful husband of 63 years, 'A long time but not long enough,' and a loving father, who encouraged his children's education and music. He was an athlete who spent time in the Pirate's farm system as an outfielder and pitcher. Walter was also an avid gardener who insisted on working the soil with his own hands until he couldn't anymore. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Polsinelli (2001) an infant daughter, Kathleen Podolski (1956), a sister, Wanda Bryan, and six brothers, John, Fred, Theodore, Andy, William and Mac Podolski. Walter is survived by his wife, Betty (Daudet) Podolski of home whom he married on November 30, 1944; his children, Deborah Barlow of Toronto, Teresa (Dave) Cybulski of Wheeling, Walter B. Podolski of home, Ben (Lorraine Fedak) Podolski of St. Clairsville, son-in-law William Polsinelli of Mingo Jct.; seven grandchildren, Justin and Jeff Barlow, Terra and Keith Rogerson, Angela, William, and Christine Polsinelli; one great-grandchild Harper Polsinelli; three sisters, Cecil Hall of Miami, Fla, Emmaline Torok of Las Vegas, and Gertrude Ghilardi of Detroit Mich. Visitation for Walter will be held on Wednesday, December 19 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home 107 Hill St. in Smithfield. A vigil service will be held at 3:30pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Thursday, December 20 at 1pm at St. Adalbert Roman Catholic Church in Dillionvale with Msgr. John Kolesar as celebrant. There will be an hour of visitation from 12-1pm at the church prior to the Mass on Thursday. Burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield.
