Anthony Joseph Lamantia, 92, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Toronto, OH, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, in Columbus.
Tony was born May 11, 1929, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Frank and Rose (Russo) Lamantia.
He was retired from the Weirton Steel Corp. where he was the Director of Technical Development. Tony was also a Veteran of the US Army.
Tony was a 1947 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Steubenville. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Ohio State University in 1954. Tony was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto and St. John the Evangelist in Naples, FL, where he was both a lector and eucharistic minister, as well as a member of St. Michaels in Worthington, OH. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, and St. Francis School Board.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Lamantia and sister, Josephine La Rosa.
Tony leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Mary Louise (Argentine) Lamantia whom he married Sept. 8, 1956; six children, Karen (Dennis) Stillwell of Columbus, OH, Mark (Lisa) Lamantia of Velencia, PA, Frank (Teresa) Lamantia of Mason, OH, Timothy (Laura) Lamantia of Smyrna, TN, Susan (Kenn) Peterson of Cincinnati, OH, and Brian (Angie) Lamantia of Noblesville, IN; sister, Agatha (Donald) Burick of Lakeland, FL; brother, Francis Lamantia of Nokomis, FL; 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 13 from 4 to 7 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held Saturday at 10 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto. Fr. Thomas Vennitti will celebrate, and burial will follow in the Toronto Union Cemetery. Additional visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:15 to 10 AM in the rear of the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Brookdale Hospice or St. Francis Catholic Church.
