Arthur C. ‘Art’ Hartline, 79, of Rayland, OH, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at his home.
Art was born Aug 17, 1941 in Washington, PA, son of the late Arthur J. ‘Jack’ and Frances (Bednarski) Hartline.
He was a 1959 graduate of Smithfield High School. Art graduated from the College of Steubenville in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Army Reserves 463rd Combat Engineers from 1963-1969.
Art began his career with Wheeling Steel in 1963 where he later retired in 2000. After retirement he continued to consult with Wheeling Steel, up until 2016, with a concentration on Accounting and Purchasing.
Art has been a member of the Smithfield Presbyterian Church since 1958, serving as an Elder since 1968, and Treasurer since 1988. He was also active in the Smithfield Lions Club where he filled in for Santa Claus for over 20 years. Art has provided Smithfield with inspiration thru the Church Bulletin Board messages since 2012.
He received the Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award in 1985, and the Smithfield High School Mary Sutherland Alumni Award in 1995. Art was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Football fan, with a ‘Man Cave’ decorated in Scarlet and Gray. He had a passion for cars, and always maintained his vehicles meticulously.
Art enjoyed his Gravely lawn equipment and grooming his home. He followed sports, especially college football and NCAA basketball. Art loved humor and was known for his stories and jokes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Michael Kinyo in 2008 and Roger Gazzola in 2018.
Art leaves behind his wife, Kathy Hartline, whom he married in 1965; his brother, Richard (Patricia) Hartline of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Doris Gazzola of Dillonvale, OH and JoAnn Kinyo of Dillonvale, OH; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation for Art will be held Tuesday, May 25 from 3 PM to 7 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH. His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at the Smithfield Presbyterian Church. Pastor Jim Taylor will officiate, and entombment will follow in the Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain.
