Obituary

 

Daniel Ponder, Jr., 81, of Washington, PA, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, in the Washington Hospital in Washington, PA.

 

Daniel was born Dec. 22, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late Daniel Ponder, Sr. and Willie (William) Ponder.

 

He was a retired Machinist with Superior Valve, and he retired from the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center Janitorial Dept. Daniel attended the Shaffer Chapel AME Church in McIntyre, OH.

 

Daniel played drums in the marching band, and he had a short music career playing drums with George Benson in the Pittsburgh area.

 

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his first wife Georgia Maria (Little) Ponder, second wife Emma Jean Freeman-Ponder, daughter Lillian Ann Maria Ponder, brother Roy Ponder, and sister Phyllis Robinson.

 

Daniel leaves behind his daughter, Doris Anne Marie Ponder of Baldwin, PA; son, Daniel (Marki) Ponder, III of Montclair, NJ; brother, Arthur Ponder of Penn Hills, PA; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 5 from 11 am to 12 noon at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home 107 Hill St. in Smithfield, OH, followed by his funeral service at noon. Rev. Melody Essex will preside, and burial will be private in Forest Lawn Gardens in McMurray, PA.
