Dolores M. ‘Dee’ Burkett, 85, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, in the Wyngate Senior Living Community in Weirton, WV.
Dee was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Toronto, daughter of the late Eugene and Anna (Hritchock) Keenan.
Dee retired from the IRS where she worked as an Agent in the Wheeling, WV office. She was a graduate of Toronto High School, a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto, a former President and member of the Toronto Band Parents and PTO.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Burkett who passed in 1993; brothers, Gene and Bernie Keenan; sisters-in-law, Pat Keenan, Barbara Craven and husband Dick, and Marti Spurlock; and brothers-in-law, John ‘Spook’ Phillipson, and Brent Burkett.
Dee leaves behind her son, James H. Burkett and Ashley McGowan, grandson, James Patrick ‘JP’ Burkett, step-grandson, Ayden Sanders; sister, Cecelia Phillipson; brother, Joe & Phyllis Keenan all of Toronto; sisters-in-law, Charlene Zeigler Keenan of Bloomingdale, OH, and Jackie Burkett of Nashville, TN; brothers-in-law, Tal and wife Jane Burkett of Marion, OH, and Steve Spurlock of Wintersville, OH; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Dee will be held Sunday, Oct. 15 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, with a Vigil Service at 3:30. Monday there will be additional visitation from 9:15 am to 10 am at St. Francis Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 am. Fr. Thomas Vennitti will celebrate, and burial will take place in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH.
