It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dolores J. ‘Dodie’ Obertance on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH, after declining health and a brief hospitalization.
Dodie was born Nov. 19. 1928, in Steubenville, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Solomon) Tulencik.
Before Dodie was married, she worked in sales and secretarial jobs before becoming a homemaker.
She was a loving wife and mother, and she always had time for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her backyard and always looked forward to vacations at the Outer Banks with her husband, Vic.
Dodie was always proud of her Slovak heritage and enjoyed cooking and baking the traditional dishes.
In addition to her parents, Dodie was preceded in death by her husband, Victor in July of 2008; son, Victor T. Obertance in 2021; grandson, Kurt Obertance and brother, Joseph Tulencik in 2018.
Surviving are her two sons, Joel (Sharon) Obertance and Daniel Obertance both of Toronto, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Dodie's wishes were to have no visitation or viewing. There will be a graveside service on Saturday May 21, at 11 am in the upper section of the Toronto Union Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
Dodie always had a kind word or offered words of encouragement to people she encountered. Instead of flowers, please extend a kind gesture or speak kind words to others in her memory.
The Family wishes to thank Valley hospice and Trinity hospital for care in her final days. Memorial donations may be directed to Valley Hospice or the Jefferson Co. Humane Society. www.jefosterfh.
