Dorotha A. ‘Toots’ Stingle, 95, of Smithfield, OH, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at home with her family by her side.
Dorotha was born January 21, 1927, in Martins Ferry, OH, daughter of the late Earl Parks Finney and Alice (Major) Finney.
She was a homemaker who helped her husband, Charles, run the family farm and raise their family. She loved flowers, gardening, and watching the birds every morning.
Dorotha was loved by everyone that knew her, and always had a beautiful smile on her face. She was always there for her family and anyone in need.
Dorotha was an Eastern Star with the Unionport Lodge Chapter 360, Dames of Malta, and the Social Order of Beauceant. During WWII, she worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in the Martins Ferry Plant.
In addition to her parents, Dorotha was preceded in death by her husband, Charles who passed Feb. 16, 2018; daughter, Sharon K. Stingle in 2011; infant son, Gary Lee Stingle; brothers, Eugene, Delbert, and Wilbur; special sister, Emma Katherine Gilbert.
She leaves behind two sons, Fred (Leslie) Stingle, and Charles ‘Chuck’ Stingle, Jr. both of Smithfield; two daughters, Sandy (Greg) Smith of Adena, OH, and Sonya (Jim) Vicker of St. Clairsville, OH; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 5 to 8 pm and again on Wednesday from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield. Eastern Stars service will be held Wednesday at 6 pm.
Dorotha’s funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 am at the funeral home. Kenny Kourim will officiate, and entombment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
Dorotha’s family would like to thank Valley Hospice, their nurses and aides, for their compassionate care and support of Dorotha during her sickness.
