Dorothy ‘DeeDee’ Barnes Beatty, 97 of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023 in the Sienna Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Wintersville, OH.
She was born May 4, 1926 in Toronto, daughter of the late Sara Elizabeth and George Barnes.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” in 2005, daughter, Karen, in 2003, and siblings, Robert and Hank Barnes, and Margaret ‘Peg’ Meyer.
She is survived by daughter, Barbara Rock and husband Larry; son-in-law, Robert Conlon, both of Toronto; a ‘special’ daughter, Polly Horn of Inez, KY. Dorothy was ‘DeeDee’ to seven grandchildren, Michele Price, Nikki (Donnie) Wright, Megan Martin, Yvonne Yost, Christopher (Danielle) Conlon, all of Toronto, Troy (Kristen) Rock of Jasper, IN, and Bryan (Shannon) Conlon of Cambridge, OH; fifteen great-grandchildren, Emily (Mike) Koenig, Erica and Elyse Price, Parker (Ashley) and Payton Wright, Zachary and Lucas Martin, Alexis (Joey) Chadwick, Jared (Jazalyn) McVicker, Isabelle Leasure, Easton and Braxton Conlon, Taylore, Miranda, and Hollie Robinson; one great-great-grandson, Mikey Koenig and another great-great-grandchild due soon.
For over 50 years, Dorothy was an active member of the N. River Ave. Church of Christ and recently she had attended the First Methodist Church on Main Street. Dorothy’s life was deeply rooted in her faith and her mission was to always take care of others.
She was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Kaul Clay, Follansbee Steel, and Verna’s Dress Shop. DeeDee was known for one-of-a-kind peanut butter and jelly toast and homemade peanut butter fudge.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Sienna Skilled Nursing and Rehab and Valley Hospice for the emotional support and medical care provided to Dorothy during this difficult time.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, Sept. 14 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, and again on Friday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Her funeral service will follow on Friday at 1:30 pm. with Rev. Kevin Rinkes and burial will follow in the Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Toronto Alumni Assoc. as Dorothy was a graduate of the class of 1944, or the First Methodist Church. www.jefosterfh.com
