Edward Robinson Obituary

Edward J. Robinson, 58, of Toronto, OH passed away unexpectedly on May 16, 2021. He was born May 11, 1963 in Ashtabula, OH to the late Donald (Sr.) and Thekla Robinson. Ed was affectionately known as “Rock”, “Rockhead” and “Coach Rob” to many who knew and loved him.

A 1981 graduate from Toronto High School, Ed was a three-sport standout athlete. He went on to attend college at Slippery Rock University (PA) where he was a four-year starting defensive tackle for the football team, earning various distinguished honors and accolades. He remains the all-time record holder in forced fumbles, 6th all-time in career sacks and 11th all-time in total tackles.

A beloved educator and coach for more than 30 years, Ed built successful careers inside and outside the classroom. He taught history and government, as well as coached Football and Baseball at Barberton High School and Copley High School, respectively. He holds the baseball single-season record at both schools and reached the Ohio Division I 1993 State Championship at Barberton. He has been inducted into the Barberton All-Sports Hall of Fame, the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame and the Toronto High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned his Master’s Degree in Secondary School Administration from Ashland University and his Superintendent Licensure from Franciscan University.

As an administrator, Ed was an advocate for all students. He was the Assistant Principal at Polaris Career Center (2007-2010), Principal of Toronto High School (2010-2012), and since 2012, was the Director of Programs for Carrollton Schools. He was instrumental in many of Carrollton’s recent district-wide innovations, finding ways to fund educational programs and enhance opportunities for every student throughout the district, with the goal of allowing each student to reach their maximum potential. He led the development of Carroll County’s first compressed natural gas vehicle fueling station, the planning of each of the new school buildings, expansion of safe sidewalks in the community and was working on a passion project, an outdoor amphitheater and classroom, to be built on their beautiful school grounds, and much more. During the pandemic, he spent his days hand delivering meals and supplies to every student and their families as well as community members in need.

His time as an athlete, coach and educator facilitated some of his life’s most cherished relationships and lasting memories, caring so genuinely for each student, player and colleague who crossed his path. Many of whom became lifelong friends.

Ed was an active member of his community and proudly served the Lord at First United Methodist Church. A green thumb, he spent his free time caring for the church grounds and filling the space with flowers each season.

Of all his accomplishments, accolades and titles, his most proud title was “Dad”. He devoted his life to supporting his girls in all their endeavors, instilling a love of sports, fun, family, hard work and faith.

Ed is survived by his sister Kathy Hamrick of Little Hocking, OH, brother Donald Robinson Jr. (Alice) of Lexington, SC, his three daughters, Taylore Robinson, 26, Miranda Robinson, 23, and Hollie Robinson, 19, his Partner Michele Price of Toronto, as well as her daughters Emily (Mike) Konig, Erica Price, Elyse Price and Grandson Michael Konig, of Toronto, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ed was a friend to all and a stranger to none. His love for others knew no bounds. His impact and influence leave behind a legacy of compassion, toughness, and service through every avenue of his life, professional and personal. He will be deeply missed by so many.
